Words, photos and video by David LamFormer pro athlete reflects on his journey from America to Britain and how it has shaped his fashion sensibilities.
“I have a ridiculous amount of crystals that I wear with every outfit,” says Will Wise, who recently relocated to London from the United States. Standing at six feet, nine inches, the former professional basketball player believes in the metaphysical benefits of crystals.
“I think it's very unique and me being the spiritual person that I am, I’m very tapped into my space and my greatness and my energy”, he reveals. “And I feel as though you can create your reality based on your energy. So I live in that energy and help, you know, shine [a] light to other people to tap into their greatness.”
As a marketing manager for a London-based music artist, Will attributes his interest in fashion to his exposure to vibrant artists and creatives. "I put a lot of effort into what I wear just because I'm constantly around creatives,” he shares. “They take a lot of effort in what they wear, even if it's subconsciously so. You'll notice that some artists are very bright and out there, you'll take note [of] what they're wearing because it [seems] cool and catchy. And then you can tell that in their music as well."
Will enjoys a comfortable and stylish wardrobe. "Most of the time, I'm in front of a computer, on calls, and attending Zoom meetings," he explains. "So, I like to be comfy. You'll see me in [an] all pink sweatsuit, [an] all blue sweatsuit."
His extensive travel experiences have also left an indelible mark on his style. Having played professional basketball across eight countries, from Spain to Australia, he has absorbed the diverse cultures of each place he has called home. Growing up in Philadelphia and studying in cities such as New Jersey, Texas, and New York, his exposure to different regions and their unique styles has shaped his sensibilities into a melting pot of influences. Will says, “I think my style is a melting pot of travel and different cultures.”
